We took the scouts for an overnight stay on the USS Yorktown this weekend. Overall it was a good time. The sleeping accommodations were not the best, but that was part of the idea. Also, if you like analog gauges then this is the place for you.

Wow! And that Corsair is a beaut! So where did the kids stay? Did they get to bunk in crew quarters?

I love the Yorktown! I go every year when I visit Charleston. Last year my brother and I snuck into a closed off part of the ship, it was so wild haha
Where did you guys stay overnight?

We stayed up near the bow right below the flight deck.
We talked with one of the volunteers and he talked about the closed off spaces. He said they are pretty much untouched aside from the graffiti the last crew left on the walls.

Yeah, they had us in the bow in crew quarters right below the flight deck. We were stacked in four high. The ladies were in the officer quarters and those were supposedly much nicer than where we stayed.

Very cool. One of my favorite memories from Scouts was getting to stay in a WWII-era submarine. Definitely tight quarters, I’m not sure it would be as fun now that I’m 6'3" tall.

Imagine trying to sleep that way on the high seas.

Brb gotta go make some cookies...
That’s seriously cool though. I think my little brother did that once but I've never seen it.

I really, really love pretty much everything about Charleston.

That’s awesome. I’d love to spend a night there!
And ya what I saw really looked untouched. It was kinda creepy but really cool!

They said that anyone with a group of over 10 can stay there.

Cool pictures and sound like a fun thing for the kids to do. One thing I can’t figure out is what I’m looking at here. Those don’t look to be anchor chains, but I can’t figure what they would be for.

They are anchor chains. it takes a minute to drop them and an hour to pull them back up. Each link is around 100 lbs.
